Two female students from Lokoja Varsity and Kogi Poly tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Friday morning in Lokoja. The students were identified as Covenant Omolola Isaac from Federal University Lokoja’s Geology Department and Abu Taiwo Abimbola from Kogi State Polytechnic’s Science Laboratory and Technology Department.

According to eyewitnesses, the articulated vehicle heading to Abuja lost control and crashed into the tricycle, which was carrying passengers, including the two students. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the instant death of the two students.
The National Association of Science Laboratory and Technology Students, Kogi State Polytechnic chapter, has issued a statement mourning the loss of Abu Taiwo Abimbola, describing her as a “beacon of hope and inspiration”.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear colleague, Abu Taiwo Abimbola,” the statement read. “She was an exceptional student, known for her academic excellence and dedication to her studies. Her passing leaves a void in our hearts, and we pray that God grants her family and friends the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
The Federal University Lokoja and Kogi State Polytechnic communities have also expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased students.
The Kogi State Government has been urged to take measures to prevent such accidents in the future, including enforcing traffic regulations and improving road safety.
The police have commenced an investigation into the accident, and the driver of the articulated vehicle is currently in custody.
