A devastating boat accident in Gummi, Zamfara State, has claimed the lives of 41 people. The incident occurred on Saturday morning when a boat carrying 53 farmers to their farms capsized.
Only 12 people, including the captain, were rescued alive. An eyewitness, Abubakar Muhammad, stated that the boat was overloaded, and despite efforts to rescue passengers, many were unable to escape.
The Sole Administrator of Gummi Local Government Area, Alhaji Na’Allah Musa, confirmed the accident and attributed it to overloading. He noted that the captain had warned passengers to disembark, but they refused.
Rescue operations are ongoing to locate missing passengers. The incident highlights the importance of safety measures and responsible boat operations.
The Zamfara State government has not yet released an official statement on the tragedy.
