A devastating shooting incident occurred in the Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos on September 8, 2024, claiming the life of 18-year-old Toheeb Akinbowale. The victim was fatally shot by a member of the Nigerian Hunter and Forest Security Service, James, 28, who mistakenly discharged his double-barrel shotgun.
Two others, Sodeeq and another individual whose name is yet to be confirmed, were also injured in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at Ikeja General Hospital. Akinbowale was pronounced dead at 4:10 PM at Ifako Ijaiye Hospital.
The police promptly responded to the scene, recovering the weapon and arresting James, who is now in custody. A team of detectives is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating, “It is an unfortunate incident. Our team responded promptly, and we have already begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The suspect is cooperating, and we have recovered the weapon used. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Ikeja Mortuary. We will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.”
