The death toll from the recent landslide in Uganda has risen to 28, with dozens still unaccounted for. The landslide, which occurred on the slopes of Mount Elgon, buried several villages and has been blamed on climate change by the Uganda Red Cross.
The affected area has experienced several deadly landslides in the past, including one in 2010 that killed at least 80 people. Despite efforts by authorities to persuade residents to move to safer ground, many have been unable to do so due to poverty and lack of resources.
The recent landslide has also highlighted the issue of climate change in Uganda, with unusually heavy rains triggering widespread flooding and landslides in some areas of the country.
