The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is set to graduate 16,409 students at its 55th convocation ceremony, with two students achieving a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0. Damilare Adebakin and Samuel Badekale, both from the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Science, will share the overall best-graduating student position.
Here are the highlights of the upcoming convocation ceremony:
- Convocation Schedule: The ceremony will start on Friday, January 10, with a Jumaat service and end on Sunday, January 17, 2025, with a thanksgiving service.
- Graduating Students: 16,409 students will graduate, comprising 9,684 students receiving first degrees and diplomas, 6,659 receiving postgraduate degrees, and 66 graduating from the UNILAG Business School.
- Convocation Lecture: A lecture titled ‘Universities as Hubs for Development and Wealth Creation’ will be delivered by Dr. Tayo Aduloju, CEO of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group, on Monday, January 13.
- Honorary Degrees: Three eminent Nigerians – Fola Adeola, Engr. Kolawole Adesina, and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
- will be conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Science.
- Other Events: The convocation week will feature a groundbreaking ceremony for the School of Postgraduate Studies building, award ceremonies, and a convocation play.
