A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, has spoken out about the events leading up to a physical altercation with a third-year student, Goddy Mbakwe Precious. The incident occurred when Okoye encountered the student recording a dance video in the corridor of the Faculty of Arts.
According to Okoye, he had politely asked the student to excuse him as he passed behind her, but she became upset and accused him of hitting her. The situation escalated, with the student grabbing Okoye’s clothes before bystanders intervened.
In a video shared by UNIZIK 94.1FM, Okoye recounted his experience, stating that he had asked the student to delete the video she was recording, but she refused. He claimed that he stretched out his hand to confiscate the phone, which led to the altercation.
Okoye emphasized that he would leave any further action to the university’s committee. The incident has sparked debate about the boundaries between students and lecturers, as well as the appropriate response to conflicts on campus.
The university has not yet released an official statement on the matter, but the incident has raised concerns about campus safety and the need for clear guidelines on student-lecturer interactions.
