UNN Lecturer Regains Freedom After Daring Police Rescue

 

Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has been freed by the police after being kidnapped by gunmen.

Details of the Rescue

The Enugu State Police Command conducted a successful operation on October 28, 2024, at 7:10 p.m. along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road, specifically in the Neke-Uno area. The police foiled another kidnapping attempt, leading to a gunfight with the suspects.

Suspects Flee, Leave Behind Arms

The kidnappers fled with gunshot wounds, abandoning:

  •  An AK-47 rifle
  •  Two magazines with 22 rounds of ammunition
  •  A chain of 39 live rounds

Initial Abduction

Prof. Ujam was initially abducted on October 26, 2024, on the Ugwuogo-Opi Nsukka Road.

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has:

False Kidnapping Report Debunked

The police denied reports of a kidnapping involving a Federal Road Safety Corps officer traveling from Benue State, confirming no such incident occurred in Enugu State.
