Vandals have attacked the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line, causing significant disruption to ongoing repair works. The incident, which occurred on November 19, 2024, affected Towers 29 to 31 and resulted in the theft of approximately one-third of the conductor. This is the third act of vandalism on the same transmission line in four months.
In response to the attack, TCN has deployed local vigilantes to secure the site until repairs are completed. The company has also started repairs, with efforts underway to replace the stolen conductor. Despite challenges posed by difficult terrain and flooding, the restringing of the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line is approximately 85% complete.
Unfortunately, this incident is not isolated. Earlier in November, vandals attacked transmission towers in the Okada and Ofosu communities along the 330kV Benin-Egbin and Benin-Omotosho transmission lines, affecting 31 towers.
In another incident, vandals destroyed the Lokoja-Gwagwalada transmission line, which is a significant setback for the country’s power infrastructure [2]. The Transmission Company of Nigeria has urged the public to support efforts to address the criminal activities targeting power infrastructure.
